AI & African Enterprises: April 2022 Newsletter

Newsletter Originally Published April 25, 2022

📈 Spring has Sprung!

We like to think of AI in Africa as centred around Policy, Infrastructure, Investment and Innovation. In each newsletter, we aim to highlight activity in each of these pillars to give an overview of the state and evolution of AI in Africa.

In April, President Kagame called for harmonisation of data regulation across Africa, and announcements of subsea cable landings and new data centre facilities point to continued investment in digital infrastructure in Africa. From an investment perspective, while AI-specific funding continues to lag other sectors, April saw yet another strategic investment partnership between a startup and an integrator, supporting our hypothesis that partnerships and M&A present the best investment instruments to scale AI in Africa at present.

As usual, we look forward to meeting you in your inbox on the last Monday of each month! Questions, comments, or just want to chat? We'd love to hear from you!
